The atheists in Texas are giving the First Amendment a major league workout.
From CBS News:
Here’s the money quote: “As long as students are not violating laws or violating the Constitution, they have the freedom of speech and assembly,” said University of Texas San Antonio spokesman David Gabler.
He’s right. He’s absolutely right. I know some will find this book swap to be offensive and I get it. But for my money, USTA comes out on the winning side of this public relations issue.
No doubt, the university likely would rather not have the distraction of a Holy War, but by letting the students exercise their rights, they come out on top. After all, I remember Christian groups passing out free bibles to students when I was in college. Some may find that offensive, but they were well within their First Amendment rights to do that.
So what is Atheist Agenda doing with the swapped bibles? According to my local CBS affiliate, donating them.
