Because I, like many of you, have received or seen the “I’m 76 and I’m tired” essay supposedly written by Bill Cosby, I feel it’s time to let Bill Cosby actually speak for himself on this matter. This comes directly from his website, http://www.billcosby.com. He posted it on 9 Sept 2011 in the NEWS section (if you want to see for yourself). Here’s what Bill Cosby ACTUALLY said:
“There’s an email floating around – entitled ‘I’m 76 and tired’ – purportedly sent by me. I did not write the email, I did not send the email, I’m not 76, and I don’t subscribe to the ugly views expressed in the email. We are coming up to an important anniversary on Sunday, which is a day when we should all come together. Whoever wrote this email is not thinking about our country, or what is important. If you get the email, it’s time to hit DELETE.”
There. Now you know how Bill Cosby feels about that particular essay. You may choose to disagree with Bill, in favor of faux-Bill. And that’s fine. But Bill Cosby deserves to not be attached to something he didn’t write, say or believe.
The real author? Robert A. Hall. Feel free to read more about him here.
Do Bill Cosby a favor and stop pinning this diatribe on him. If you’ve forwarded “I’m 76 and tired,” forward a correction.
