college football week 12 preview: it’s ‘bama, florida state…and everyone else.

Since the BCS rankings seem to have it right, there’s really no point for me continue doing my own, sporadic Top 25 in college football. It’s pretty simple: There’s Alabama. There’s Florida State. And then there’s the rest.

Unless something crazy happens over the next four weeks, the BCS Championship Game is all but set. For me, there are only two college football games that I want to see (and there’s no guarantee it’ll happen):
Alabama vs. Florida State. These are the two best teams in college football. I want to see Jameis Winston and that offense go up against that ‘Bama defense.

Michigan State vs. Ohio State. There is only one team in the B1G I think can beat Ohio State. Yes, it’s a team from Michigan, but it’s not the maize-and-blue. If Sparty runs the table and can knock off Ohio State in the B1G championship game, they will forever lament that clunker of a loss to Notre Dame.

In the Meantime…A Few Games This Week That Should Be Fun
No. 4 Stanford (8-1/6-1) at USC (6-2/4-2). Earlier in the year, this would’ve been a likely route for the Cardinal. But the Men of Troy have rallied since firing Lane Kiffin. I expect USC to put up a fight, but Stanford might be the best one-loss team in the nation. I expect the Cardinal to win.

No. 16 Michigan State (8-1/5-0) at Nebraska (7-2/4-1). This is the all-important clincher for Sparty. A win all but punches a ticket to Indianapolis for the B1G Championship game. Nebraska’s good, but their offense will be no match for State’s defense. Sparty will roll.

No. 23 Miami (7-2/3-2) at Duke (7-2/3-2). The Hurricanes are not the intriguing part to this story. It’s the Blue Devils. Miami’s looking to stop the bleeding after two straight losses while Duke is looking for its sixth straight win and a shot at a bowl game. I think Duke pulls this one out.
